What Is Stainless Steel Sheet?

Stainless steel is the term given to a group of steel alloys that are made from 18% chromium and 8% nickel, plus iron ore and silicon. The steel is then rolled into sheets of different thicknesses up to 3mm thick. Stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion, and can be kept clean easily, especially when it has been polished. The smooth surface of polished stainless steel sheet means that it has no cracks or crevices where dirt and bacteria hide, making it extremely hygienic. Stainless steel is also extremely tough and durable, and has excellent heat resistant properties.

What is Stainless Steel Sheet used for?

Stainless steel sheet is often used in environments that are subject to water and moisture, and where cleanliness and hygiene are important. One of the most common areas in which stainless steel sheet us used, is in commercial kitchens. Here it us used to cover worksurfaces, counter tops and walls as a splashback, as well storage cupboards and shelves. Cooker hobs are also made from stainless steel, as the material is resistant to effects of heat, and can be cleaned easily. For similar reasons it is used in laboratories, where durability, resistance to heat and corrosion are essential, and where aseptic, sanitary conditions need to be maintained. Stainless steel sheet is also used to make water storage tanks, silos to store grain, and transportation tankers. Because of its clean, smooth, modern look, it is also used as a decorative finish

What different grades are supplied?

Metals4U provides stainless steel sheet in two different grades. 304 grade is the most widely used of all stainless steels, and is seen throughout industrial, commercial, and domestic settings, and has excellent formability. 316 grade stainless steel has a slightly higher nickel content and also contains molybdenum, making it even more resistant to corrosion in aggressive environments than 304 grade. For this reason it is sometimes known as marine-grade stainless steel, as it can last for a very long time in salt-water conditions and is highly suitable for coastal applications. As a result it can be slightly more expensive than 304 grade.

What different finishes of stainless steel sheet do metal4U supply?

We supply stainless sheet in a dull polished finish, and in a circular polished finish.
