What is brass half round moulding and what is it used for?
Our stock of brass moulding is available in a half round bar profile that is suitable for a wide range of projects; it is commonly used to cover the edges or joins of sheet materials, as a decorative edging on worktops and shelves, and can even be used as faux panelling or picture frames by fixing it directly to the wall.
This profile is often also called D section due to the shape of its cross section, and is supplied in mill finish in either CZ121 or CZ130 grade brass depending on the size of profile.
Our half round bars have good corrosion resistance, and can be surface enhanced by using our range of easy to use brass antiquing products.
Brass beading characteristics
Brass beading offers a unique combination of properties that make it a popular choice for various applications:
- Tarnish resistant: Brass maintains its lustrous appearance over time, requiring minimal maintenance.
- Low friction: Ideal for applications where smooth operation is essential, such as sliding mechanisms.
- Malleable: Brass beading is easy to shape and form, making it suitable for intricate designs and custom projects.
- Easily machined: Its machinability ensures precise cuts and customisations, which are perfect for detailed work.

Can you bend a brass half round moulding?
Yes, you can bend a brass half round moulding as it is highly malleable. To bend brass successfully, follow these steps:
- Heat the brass: Gently heat the area you wish to bend using a torch or heat gun. This process, called annealing, softens the brass and reduces the risk of cracking.
- Use a bending tool: Secure the brass in a vice or bending jig to ensure accuracy and control.
- Apply steady pressure: Gradually bend the brass to the desired shape, avoiding any sharp angles that could weaken the material.
- Cool and clean: Allow the brass to cool naturally before cleaning off any residue from the heating process.
