What is mild steel channel and what is it used for?

Mild steel channel, also commonly known as U channel or C channel is measured by width x depth x weight per metre.

These sections are manufactured from S275JR grade steel and have excellent machinability and weldability. Our stocks are available in mill finish, red oxide, or Zintec finish to offer a range of corrosion resistance properties to suit your project. To increase corrosion resistance mild steel is normally painted or galvanised after fabrication.

Mild steel channel is widely used in civil engineering and construction to support floor joists and to weight bear above window and door gaps where the structural load does not require a I beam.

If you are uncertain whether your project requires mild steel C channel or an I beam, we recommend you consult a structural engineer or other qualified professional.

Mild steel channel is supplied in lengths up to 6 metres long and can be easily cut, drilled, and  machined. It is particularly suited to all methods of welding. Mild Steel Channel is produced to grade EN 10025-2 S275JR one of the most widely use steel specifications for general construction.

Delivery of Channels.

Channels are heavy, so all Channels we dispatch over 60Kg in weight have to be delivered by a haulier rather than a standard courier service - delivery times are estimated from information we receive from the haulier companies, therefore, we cannot guarantee that any delivery will reach you on a certain date or at a certain time as these oversize deliveries are outsourced. We recommend that you do not organise workmen until your goods have been delivered so that you can avoid any losses.

You will need to make sure off-loading facilities are available on site as they will not be delivered on a vehicle with a Hiab.

Channels less than 60Kg in weight will be delivered by courier and if over 30Kg the delivery driver will need help manually unloading your order.

Order your mild steel channel from metals4U.

We offer next day delivery options with no minimum order quantity.
