Tempilsticks
Tempilsticks are used to indicate the temperature of metal during the heating process. Simply mark the workpiece surface before welding, annealing, heat treating, or preheating and when the temperature has been reached the tempilstick mark will melt and smear. These are sold in a range of Centigrade and Fahrenheit temperature rated options.
