What is EN8 bright mild steel square bar and what is it used for?

EN8 bright steel square bar, or square stock as it is often called, has four faces of identical width; this differs from flat bar, which has a rectangular profile with two faces of one width and the two opposing faces have a different width. It is also known as square stock and box bar and along with flat bar, round bar, and hexagonal bar, it may also be known as bar stock or billet .

Compared to normal mild steel, bright EN8 has tighter sectional tolerances, increased straightness, and a much cleaner surface. The main advantage of CDS is that it can be brought closer to the finished machine size, reducing machining costs and has a marked increase in physical strength over hot rolled bars of the same profile.

What is box bar used for?

EN8 bright steel square bar is used for fencing, making gates, repairs, decorative work, and general manufacturing. EN8 bright may be used where increased strength is required, and where tolerances on size are important.
