
Weatherproofing an Airfield
When your equipment is exposed to the British weather year after year, keeping it protected from the elements can become a challenge. For one of our customers, Richard, that challenge involved finding a practical way to protect the security cameras at the microlight airfield where he flies.
Protecting Security Cameras from the Elements
After years of exposure to wind, rain and changing temperatures, condensation had started to cause problems with the airfield's existing security cameras.
With a set of new cameras on the way, Richard decided to take matters into his own hands and create a simple but effective solution to give them some additional protection.
Rather than relying solely on the cameras' existing weather resistance, he fabricated seven custom weather-protection enclosures, designed to help shield the new equipment from rain and the harsh conditions of an exposed airfield.
Made from Aluminium
For the project, Richard used:
Aluminium was a practical choice for the enclosures. Its combination of relatively low weight, durability and corrosion resistance makes it particularly useful for outdoor fabrication projects where components are regularly exposed to the elements.
Using aluminium sheet alongside aluminium angle let Richard build sturdy enclosures around each camera while keeping the overall design straightforward and functional.
A Simple Solution to a Real-World Problem
One of the things we enjoy most about customer projects like this is seeing how standard metal products can become practical solutions.
Richard's finished enclosures aren't complicated for their own sake. They're designed to do one important job: help keep wind and rain away from the new security cameras and reduce the chances of moisture causing problems in the future.
With seven enclosures fabricated and ready for the new cameras, we hope they'll keep the equipment dry and protected for many years to come.
