metals4U sponsor Team Hare for Formula Student 2024

Many of you that follow metals4U on social media, or regularly read our blogs, will know that we like to get involved in supporting emerging new talent – particularly when it embraces the next generation of metal workers. We are always interested in how people use metal in engineering and creative projects which is why we are thrilled to be returning our support to Team HARE.

In 2024 metals4U have continued supporting Team HARE as a gold sponsor, providing them with technical expertise and material support, as they embark on one of their biggest challenges ever, building their first electric car, which will compete against 90 other universities from around the globe in the Formula Student Competition at Silverstone International Circuit in July.

Team Hare

This annual competition entails students from automotive, motorsport, mechanical, and electronic engineering disciplines designing and building a single seat race car prototype. Student teams from all around the world compete in a series of tasks and challenges to earn themselves a place at Silverstone in July. This year the competition has seen more teams compete as EV’s than Traditional internal combustion engine cars. Team HARE is planning to stand out with their All-wheel-drive vehicle that is powered by 4 in-wheel electric motors and a custom Lithium-Ion battery.

Throughout the competition, a robust testing process assesses the validity of the car build to culminate in a series of static and dynamic test events held over several days at Silverstone. The team must also work through a series of tasks over several months to produce data on different elements of the vehicle build with harsh point penalties incurred for missing a submission deadline. This competition is not for the faint hearted, the standards are high and the scrutiny on all aspects of the team endeavour is monumental.

Omar Team Hare

This year the team consists of 30 students, Leading the team is Omar Zayed, a 23-year-old Automotive and Motorsport Engineering BEng student. Omar has been involved with the team since 2019, managing 2022’s concept class team which paved the way for this year’s EV plans. As Team Principal, Omar will be ensuring consistent quality of engineering throughout project, monitoring progress and deadlines, organising sponsorships and funding and most importantly making sure everyone is safe.

Over the coming months we will be sharing much more detail and insight into the progress of the team and the car. To make sure you are always up to date on metals4U news make sure to follow us on social media.
