DIY Aluminium Shoe Rack Project — Built In-House with Materials from metals4U

At metals4U, we love a hands-on challenge, so when we needed a shoe rack that was both strong and stylish, we decided to build one ourselves! The result? A clean, industrial-style rack that is as practical as it is good-looking.
And the best part: every material used came straight from our own warehouse.
Built With Precision, Designed to Last
For this project, we wanted durability without unnecessary weight, so aluminium was the perfect choice. Here is what went into the build:
- 20mm x 20mm x 1.5mm Aluminium Box Section – lightweight but rigid, forming the main structure
- 20mm 2-way & 3-way Connectors – making assembly clean, fast, and secure
- 20mm Square Inserts – giving the rack a professional, finished look
- 2mm Aluminium 5-Bar Tread Plate – added to the base for strength, grip, and a touch of industrial character
The combination of these components allowed us to create a rack that is sturdy enough to support multiple pairs of shoes while still being easy to move when needed.
Simple, Smart, and Satisfying
What we love about this project is its accessibility. With basic cutting, measuring, and assembly, we turned a simple idea into a functional everyday piece: no welding, no complicated tools, just strong materials and innovative construction.
The finished rack keeps shoes neatly organised and off the floor, all while adding a modern, industrial aesthetic to the space.
Why Build It Yourself?
- Custom size — fits exactly where we need it
- Lightweight but rigid — thanks to aluminium
- Cost-effective — built from materials already on hand
- Proudly made in-house — there’s nothing more satisfying
Plus, creating something yourself means you get exactly the look and performance you are after.
