DIY Defender 90 Custom Drawer System

At metals4U, we are constantly inspired by the creativity and practicality of our customers' projects. One of our recent favourites is a clever storage solution designed for a TD5 Defender 90, proving that with the right materials, you can make your vehicle work precisely the way you need it to.

Building a Bespoke Drawer System

The project began with a simple goal: create a custom drawer system to fit neatly between the wheel arches of a Defender 90. Starting with 18mm plywood, our customer built the frame to maximise storage space while keeping everything robust enough for everyday use.

To give the build a practical finish, rubber matting was added to the top surfaces and drawer fronts. This not only protects against wear and tear but also adds grip and durability—perfect for a working vehicle or weekend adventures.

Adding Strength and Style with Aluminium Edging

The finishing touch came from Aluminium edging supplied by metals4U. This detail gave the drawer system a clean, professional look while also protecting the edges against knocks and scrapes. It’s a simple addition that really ties the whole project together, making it both challenging and stylish.

What Is Next?

Although the drawer system is already functional, the project is still a work in progress with just a few finishing touches left. And it does not stop there, our customer is already planning the next phase: a custom dog cage, using steel recently ordered from us.
