Over the past year, we have had the chance to support a wide range of customer projects. Some are practical, some are creative, and some stay with you for a long time.
One that stands out is the Johnny 5 replica project.
Bringing an '80s icon back to life
Back in 2024, we welcomed a life-sized replica of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit to metals4U. Built by Ryan, with support from his wife Stacy, the project was a clear labour of love.
This was not just a static model. The movement and level of detail gave it real character, and it did not take long for it to draw attention from both the team and customers.
For many, it brought back memories of the original film. For others, it was simply impressive to see what can be achieved with the right skills and materials.
Our role in the build
We were pleased to supply materials that contributed to the project.
It is always rewarding to see the materials we provide become part of something like this. Projects like Ryan's show what is possible when experience, creativity, and persistence come together.
A visit that stood out
When Johnny 5 arrived on site, it quickly became a topic of discussion. People stopped to take a closer look, ask questions, and see how it all worked.
The visit also attracted wider attention, with coverage from the Yorkshire Evening Post. It is not something we see every day, and it added another layer to an already memorable experience.
Looking ahead
At the time of the visit, Ryan was already working on a second Johnny 5. We look forward to seeing how that project progresses and how our materials continue to contribute to bringing it together.
Final thoughts
Looking back, this was a great example of the kind of project we are proud to support.
