Common Uses of Aluminium Rods

Aluminium rod is a versatile material used across various industries due to its strength, durability, and resistance to corrosion. Rod is commonly used for framing, support structures, and architectural features in construction; providing essential strength without unnecessary weight. In the automotive sector, aluminium rod is popular for vehicle components and custom fabrication, helping reduce overall weight. In the marine industry, aluminium rod is ideal for components exposed to water and salt, as they resist corrosion and can withstand harsh environments.

Other Products to Purchase Alongside Aluminium Rod

For projects that require aluminium rod, you might also need other aluminium products to complement your work. At metals4U, we recommend the following:

  • Aluminium Sheet is ideal for larger surface areas that require a durable, lightweight material. It is often used in construction and manufacturing projects.
  • Aluminium Square — Perfect for structural applications, offering increased rigidity and strength where aluminium rod might not suffice.
  • Aluminium Angle — This is ideal for corner joints or edge protection, and when paired with aluminium rods, they form robust support structures, especially for load-bearing applications.
  • Aluminium Channel — Aluminium rods and channels can be combined for added reinforcement in frames or enclosures. They are often used in construction and custom fabrication projects.

Benefits of Aluminium Round Bars

Lightweight and robust: Aluminium round bars offer an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, making them perfect for applications where reducing weight is essential.

Excellent corrosion resistance: Aluminium is naturally resistant to corrosion, making it suitable for outdoor use and environments or areas with high humidity. Aluminium can be lacquered, painted, or powder coated to preserve its aesthetic finish.

Easy to work with: Aluminium round bars can be easily machined, formed, and welded, reducing manufacturing costs and time.

Environmentally friendly: Aluminium is a highly recyclable metal, making it a sustainable choice for various applications.

Aluminium rod sizes

metals4U stock aluminium round bar in an extensive range of diameters. Starting at 3mm diameter, we stock products up to 228.6mm (9 inches).

It is available in standard lengths up to 4000 mm for diameters up to 76.2mm (3 inches) and lengths up to 500mm for diameters over 101.6 mm (4 inches).

Our free custom-cutting service allows you to order aluminium round bars in the sizes you need, saving you time and reducing waste.

FAQ

  • What is the difference between round bar and rod?

There is no difference between aluminium round bar and aluminium rod. Rod is often used to describe products with a smaller diameter, but there is no set figure which divides the categories. Aluminium rod is also used to differentiate from other products such as aluminium flat bar.

  • Can you bend aluminium round bars?

You can bend aluminium round bars using a manual or hydraulic pipe bender, as well as a bend die if you would like to create multiple uniform bends. Different aluminium grades may require different techniques such as use of heat, so speak to our customer service team about which products from our aluminium bar stock are most suitable for you.

  • Can you cut aluminium round bars?

It's fairly easy to cut aluminium round bars with the correct machinery such as a mitre saw, and you can even cut smaller diameters using a vice and a hacksaw. Aluminium is a fairly soft metal, so it's possible to cut these round rods with minimal prep or lubricant.

  • What are the different grades of aluminium round bars?

All our aluminium bar and rod stock products are supplied in 6082 grade aluminium with a mill finish. This is a medium strength alloy and offers excellent machinability and corrosion resistance.

We stock a wide range of aluminium round bars and aluminium rods in a variety of diameters and lengths, with fast, free delivery on orders over £95 across England and Wales.
