T45 (+A2) properties and uses.
T45 (+A2) is also technically referred to as BS4T45. It is an alloy steel CDS tube. Originally designed for use in the construction of World War II planes such as Spitfires and Hurricanes, it is now used in a wide range of aeronautical and motorsport designs and applications. This product will withstand extremely high G forces and impact without splitting or snapping; this makes it the number one choice for roll cages, armoured vehicles, defence and aerospace designs.
T45 is a steel manganese tube that is perfect for motorsport roll cages, chassis construction and aeronautical projects due to its high tensile strength of Rm 700/900 MPa and yield of Rp0.2% ? 620 MPa.
Due to its composition, T45 is considerably stronger than other steel tubes, this makes it possible to use thinner walled tube but still maintain strength and torsional rigidity; T45 has been proven to be 24% more rigid than 4130 tube and 30% more than 1018. T45 has a reduced possibility of deforming on impact, this considerably reduces the dangers of protective structures crushing or trapping the driver or passengers in the event of a crash.
The standards are, understandably, set high on the quality and safety of this product. All our T45 Tube is aerospace quality and conforms to the latest +A2 standards in addition to BS6S100 and BS5T100. Our stock is supplied to us with mill certificates and guarantee of authenticity and is also fully MSA and FIA approved.
T45 is supplied with a ground finish to provide tight tolerances and ensure that all surface decarb is removed from the manufacturing process. It is also EDDY current tested; this procedure of electromagnetic induction detects surface and subsurface flaws to ensure we only supply stock of the highest integrity. This product is supplied pre-treated against corrosion but can also be powder coated to further protect from corrosion and to complement the design of your project.
T45 requires no heat treatments or stress before or after welding or forming making it easy to use in the workshop.
