What is bronze, and what is it used for?

Bronze does not generate sparks when struck against hard surfaces making it particularly suitable for making tools such as hammers, mallets, and wrenches to be used in potentially explosive environments or near flammable vapours.

Copper based alloys have a lower melting point than steel, so it is often used in sculpture as it also expands when heated so it forces itself into every part of the mould, then slightly contracts as it cools and solidifies for easier removal from the cast.
